California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) Applauds Governor Jerry Brown’s Appointment of Felicia Marcus to State Water Resources Control Board
OAKLAND, Calif. (May 10, 2012) – CLCV issued the following statement today:
The Board and staff of CLCV are thrilled to learn that Governor Jerry Brown has appointed our former Board colleague, dear friend and environmental champion Felicia Marcus to the State Water Resources Control Board. Felicia has had a long and impressive career of protecting California’s and our country’s natural resources and public health. In addition to serving on CLCV’s Board of Directors for eight years, Felicia has served as western director at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a nonprofit environmental action group with more than a million members, since 2008. She was executive vice president and chief operating officer at the Trust for Public Land (TPL), a national nonprofit devoted to land conservation, from 2001 to 2008.
Previously, Felicia served as the administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 9 for the Clinton Administration, where she was known for bringing unlikely allies together to achieve environmental progress. She was also a commissioner on the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works, including two years as its president, during a critical period in the early 1990’s when the city transitioned from facing multiple lawsuits to earning national awards for environmental excellence. Felicia has been a member of the Delta Stewardship Council since 2010. She also has extensive experience as a public interest lawyer and community organizer in Los Angeles.
Felicia is an excellent choice for and will be a valuable addition to the State Water Resources Control Board. On behalf of CLCV, we thank Governor Brown and congratulate Felicia Marcus on this important appointment, and urge a swift confirmation by the state Senate.
