SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement on its launch of Give Green California, a hub for candidate and PAC fundraising that provides voters an easy way to donate to climate-friendly state- and local-level candidates. Modeled after the very successful GiveGreen.com, the platform serves as a Voter Guide for Californians who care about the environment and climate action.
While California has a Democratic majority in the state legislature, we do not have a climate-justice majority in Sacramento. Our state is a top oil producing state, and the oil and gas lobby is powerful and entrenched in our politics, spending around $34 million in 2022 with 63% of state legislators taking oil money, including over half of Democrats. The fossil fuel industry is the biggest spender in politics and voters need a way to combat that.
Together with promotional partners, The Climate Center Action Fund and Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund, we aim to make it as simple as possible for supporters to donate to climate champions in California and remove climate delayers from their seats of power.
“Voters have been outmatched by the influence of corporate polluters in elections for too long,” said Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, California Environmental Voters. “This tool will harness the resources of individual political donors to build collective power and accountability for climate justice and action. Innovative, courageous change happens locally and statewide first, and together we will ensure our elected representation prioritizes communities and our future over profits.”
Give Green California will allow voters to easily browse and identify candidates based on various categories and filters, including region, office, priority level, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, amongst others, and make contributions to any combination of climate-friendly candidates.
By contributing through Give Green California, contributions not only directly support climate champions but also send a message that candidates don’t need money from oil and gas to get elected, because the power of the environmental and climate justice movements are firmly behind them. The upcoming 2024 election underscores the importance of active participation in the democratic process with every vote being pivotal in shaping our climate future.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all. Join us at www.envirovoters.org and on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. See more press releases.
